BACKGROUND


Carmen Schools of Science and Technology (Carmen) stands as the largest public charter school network in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, dedicated to empowering students to become critical thinkers and self-sufficient learners ready for success in higher education, fulfilling careers, community engagement, and family life.

Currently, Carmen Schools operates five distinct campuses, each functioning as an independent charter school authorized by Milwaukee Public Schools or UW-Milwaukee.


POSITION SUMMARY

To achieve this mission, it is essential that students make significant strides towards graduation, and when challenges arise, we are there to provide the necessary support.

The Student Support Coach role is designed to offer Carmen Middle School students the chance to engage independently in grade-level tasks within a nurturing environment.

This position involves guiding students towards the successful completion of math and ELA online programs through regular check-ins, biweekly family communications, and establishing classroom procedures and routines that foster student self-directed focus.


QUALIFICATIONS


A steadfast belief in the potential of all students to learn and succeed, alongside a commitment to eliminating educational inequity in Milwaukee.

An Associate's Degree is required.

Prior coaching experience of any kind is highly desirable.

Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of individuals.

Comfortable working with online platforms following technical training.

Effective communication skills in both written and verbal forms.

Ability to conduct duties in a positive, professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Welcome students as they enter the classroom.

Adhere to daily routines that promote focus and independent work.

Accurately record attendance within the first 10 minutes of class.

Update attendance as needed.

Engage families bi-weekly to provide updates on progress or share concerns and praise regarding student performance.

Actively monitor and encourage student engagement through movement around the classroom and data utilization within the online platform.

Assist students in troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.

Connect students with teachers to address specific learning challenges.

Inspire students by sharing weekly progress updates and holding them accountable for engaging in quality work.

Update the gradebook weekly with student progress.

Facilitate small group sessions with students to support individualized learning.
WORK ENVIRONMENT


This position primarily operates Monday – Friday during school hours; however, occasional evening work may be required.
