Our mission is to ensure that every student is well-prepared for success in higher education, meaningful careers, community engagement, and family life. Carmen operates five distinct campuses, each functioning as an independent charter school authorized by local educational authorities.
POSITION SUMMARY
At Carmen, we prioritize the development of critical thinking and self-directed learning among our students. To achieve this mission, it is essential that students make significant progress towards graduation. The Student Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting middle school students in engaging with grade-level coursework within a nurturing environment. This position involves coaching students to successfully navigate math and English Language Arts online programs through regular check-ins, biweekly family communications, and the establishment of classroom procedures that foster student independence.
QUALIFICATIONS

- An Associate's Degree is required.
- Previous experience in coaching or mentoring is highly desirable.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
- Comfort with online platforms following technical training.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Professional demeanor in performing duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome students as they enter the classroom.
- Implement daily routines that promote focus and independent work.
- Accurately record attendance within the first 10 minutes of class.
- Update attendance records as needed.
- Conduct biweekly family outreach to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.
- Actively monitor student engagement through movement around the classroom and data analysis within the online platform.
- Assist students in troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
- Connect students with teachers to address specific learning challenges.
- Encourage students by sharing weekly progress updates and holding them accountable for their work.
- Maintain an updated gradebook reflecting student progress.
- Facilitate small group sessions to support individualized learning.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position primarily operates Monday through Friday during school hours, with occasional evening work as necessary.
