Position Overview:

This role is designed for a Nutrition Education Program Manager at Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. The primary focus of this position is to facilitate nutrition education aimed at enhancing healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices through our Community Nutrition Education initiative and the senior grant program from the Office for the Aging. The target audience encompasses a diverse range of participants, including adults, seniors, and youth across Nassau County.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging educational programming covering essential topics such as nutrition fundamentals, food preparation techniques, food safety protocols, and budgeting for food.
  • Recruit participants and promote programs through effective outreach strategies and social media engagement.
  • Collect and manage participant data while ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Assist in the development of program content and foster relationships with community organizations.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and staff meetings.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and fellow nutrition educators on marketing initiatives for programming.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma plus 1 year of relevant experience).
  • Prior knowledge or experience in nutrition-related fields.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License and the ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Physical capability to transport supplies and equipment, including climbing stairs if necessary.
  • Proficiency in using technology for educational and communication purposes, including virtual platforms.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to effectively present educational content to diverse audiences.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in adult and youth education or related fields.
  • Registered Dietitian or RD-eligible status is preferred.
  • Certification as a Master Food Preserver.
  • Experience in culinary practices and familiarity with farm-to-table concepts.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and evaluate informal educational programs using various delivery methods.
  • Ability to engage with volunteers and staff effectively.
  • Experience in adhering to federal and state guidelines related to food preparation.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize work responsibilities.
  • Commitment to maintaining cultural sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving abilities.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a competitive hourly rate. The role includes a comprehensive benefits package, which encompasses health and dental insurance, retirement plans, and paid leave.
