Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic I to join our team at Waukesha County's Department of Public Works' Facilities Division. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will perform a variety of maintenance and minor repair work to the interior and exterior of County buildings, assisting our seasoned Maintenance Mechanics II & III in plumbing, heating, electrical, or carpentry repairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and minor repair work to the interior and exterior of County buildings
  • Assist Maintenance Mechanics II & III in plumbing, heating, electrical, or carpentry repairs
  • Perform repairs to interior and exterior windows, walls, and doors, including associated frames and hardware
  • Perform minor drywall plaster, or ceramic tile wall repairs and various flooring and roofing repairs
  • Perform roof inspections to identify any roofing issues and prevent building damage
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance, lubricate, and change belts on various pieces of mechanical equipment
  • Clean and replace filters for heating and ventilating equipment
  • Maintain tools and equipment
  • Perform necessary surface preparation and apply paint, shellac, varnish, enamel, stain or other protectives to various surfaces
  • Move heavy furniture or equipment from one location to another
  • Perform pick-up and delivery duties as directed
  • Assemble tools and supplies in preparation for work orders; complete work orders for room set-up or break down
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Three years of work experience involving trades work or general repairs and maintenance to buildings
  • Relevant post high school training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis to meet the work experience requirement
  • Possession of a Valid Driver's License desirable
Work Environment

This is a 2nd shift position, working hours of 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Monday - Friday, and includes working nights, weekends, overtime, holidays, and at odd hours when emergency situations require such duty. The first two weeks will be first shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday, for training purposes.
