Laboratory Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Assistant to join our team at the City of Arlington. In this role, you will be responsible for performing routine analyses and quality control tasks, maintaining laboratory glassware, and recording results.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine analyses and quality control as required.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed and results obtained.
- Clean and store laboratory glassware per analytical requirements.
- Record equipment temperatures and perform bacteriological analysis on weekends and holidays.
- Knowledge of basic chemical, biological, and analytical concepts used to analyze water, waste water and environmental samples.
- Knowledge of computer basics.
- Knowledge of math, including decimals and use of equations.
- Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, calibration and maintenance.
- Knowledge of quality control principles and application.
- Knowledge about state and federal rules and regulations regarding water quality and water treatment processes.
- Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
- Ability to maintain detailed records and organize workload effectively.
- Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to seeing, sorting, holding, carrying, squatting, and writing.
- Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment.
A high school diploma plus six hours of college level Chemistry and/or Geology and three hours of computer basics is required. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A TCEQ Class D Water License is required within the first 6 months of employment.
Compensation and BenefitsThe estimated salary for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience. The City of Arlington offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
