Job Summary

Houston Methodist Hospital is seeking a highly motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant I to join our team in the clinical laboratory. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will play a critical role in the processing, organizing, labeling, and transporting of specimens for laboratory testing.

About the Role

  • This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week with benefits, but no on-call or travel requirements.

Responsibilities

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing specimens for courier pick up and delivery to referral labs as necessary.
  • Performing various Laboratory Information System functions, such as filing requisitions, reports, and other pathology materials appropriately.
  • Organizing workload and setting priorities to ensure efficient and accurate specimen processing.
  • Maintaining a safe environment within the laboratory, following all policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials, security, and emergency preparedness.
  • Adjusting work schedules to accommodate departmental/organizational needs and utilizing time recording systems efficiently.
  • Participating in departmental projects and activities, and seeking continuing education opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory is preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing evaluations.
  • Strong interpersonal and team player skills, with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.

Salary Range

The estimated salary range for this role is $45,000-$65,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
