Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Merchandise Accountant to become a vital member of our Merchandise Accounting team. This role will be pivotal during the month-end closing process and will also involve contributions to financial reporting, inventory assessments, year-end audit preparations, and support for budgeting and forecasting activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute general ledger (GL) accounting tasks, including the maintenance of general ledger accounts.
  • Engage in the monthly financial closing process, which includes account analysis, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation.
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliations to uphold the integrity of financial statements and mitigate risks of misstatements.
  • Provide detailed analysis of balance sheet accounts as needed.
  • Prepare journal entries with the necessary supporting documentation.
  • Manage reconciliations, ensuring timely and precise postings, while preparing and analyzing financial data to report variances.
  • Perform extensive research on various inventory-related reports.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and analyze statistical data.
  • Compile and present inventory statistics and schedules to management.
  • Collaborate with teams to resolve discrepancies between inventory records and purchases.
  • Maintain data-driven processes to enhance inventory accuracy across multiple systems.
  • Reconcile various balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in documenting, reviewing, and designing workflows to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations.
  • Analyze accruals on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Provide necessary information and schedules to different departments.
  • Support annual audit processes.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of key performance indicators for the company.
  • Assist with additional general ledger activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Hyperion HFM is a plus.
  • Background in Inventory Accounting is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of general ledger accounts and practical application of GAAP.
  • Ability to analyze accounting information for accuracy and its impact on financial statements.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Strong skills in gathering and communicating data clearly and concisely.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Willingness to learn new software applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to delivering quality work.
  • Dependable and flexible team player.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally. Visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity are necessary for operating office equipment.

Regular working hours are expected to be 40 hours per week.
