POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accounting Specialist is a full-time, salaried role reporting directly to the Controller.

This position plays a crucial role within the Memorial Park Conservancy Finance Team, tasked with overseeing designated sub ledgers and roll forwards, executing timely reconciliations of general ledger accounts, and generating financial reports for the organization.

The Senior Accounting Specialist supports the mission of the Memorial Park Conservancy by ensuring the precise and prompt recording of journal entries, payroll, and expense allocations, while also facilitating the provision of accounting services and financial reports to various stakeholders, including project and organizational leadership, board members, funders, and community partners.

The primary objective of the Senior Accounting Specialist, alongside the entire accounting team, is to guarantee the production of accurate and timely monthly financial statements and annual audits that are clean, punctual, and devoid of risk.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain precise financial records and ledgers.
  • Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance with relevant standards and internal controls.
  • Execute general accounting tasks, including weekly and month-end journal entries.
  • Manage accounts receivable functions, including deposits and revenue recognition reconciliations.
  • Invoice and monitor agreement revenue.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, pledges receivable, and fixed assets.
  • Generate financial reports and conduct variance analysis.
  • Track, record, and prepare reports for grants and contracts.
  • Process payroll, including payroll taxes and 401K contributions.
  • Prepare and file necessary tax and vendor documents, including sales tax and 1099 forms.
  • Assist in the preparation of audits and Form 990.
  • Manage a petty cash drawer and vendor credit accounts.
  • Provide backup support to the Controller and Bookkeeper as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Financial Edge NXT, PaperSave, and Paylocity.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Willingness to work in a small office environment and complete tasks with minimal direct supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Willingness to work in a small office setting and complete tasks with minimal oversight.
  • After the probationary period, eligible for a hybrid work schedule of at least 2 days in the office.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS - This is a salary-exempt position with a compensation range of $60,000 - $70,000 annually. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, short-term and long-term disability, and a 401k retirement plan.
