Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled Controls Estimator to take charge of generating precise estimates based on conceptual documents, schematic designs, and construction plans. The Controls Estimator will manage all take-offs, pricing, and produce the final estimate to be integrated into the overall project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimating Duties:
    • Oversee assigned estimates.
    • Price change orders as requested by project managers.
    • Prepare detailed take-offs and quantity surveys for all necessary materials, equipment, and labor.
    • Respond promptly and accurately to requests for proposals (RFPs) and bid invitations.
    • Present estimates and proposals to clients in a professional manner.
    • Maintain a comprehensive database of historical cost data for future estimating tasks.
  • Collaboration and Relationship Management:
    • Review vendor equipment submissions and specifications to reduce discrepancies and ensure project alignment.
    • Coordinate with the Senior Controls Estimator on final proposals.
    • Assist in customer meetings as needed.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors for competitive pricing.
    • Work with other departments to align estimating activities with business objectives.
  • Industry Insight and Professional Growth:
    • Identify and evaluate controls opportunities and their related plans and specifications.
    • Stay informed on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in controls estimating.
    • Engage in educational and training opportunities to meet company goals.
    • Participate in trade associations to enhance the company's mission.
  • Software and Tools Utilization:
    • Utilize Bidtracer, Dynamics, Bluebeam, and other company software.
    • Maintain opportunities in the CRM as directed.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Assess alternative solutions and value engineering opportunities for cost-effectiveness.
    • Seek process improvement and efficiency enhancements within estimating functions.
    • Conduct thorough site assessments for accurate estimating as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of trade experience or a relevant degree.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC&R control systems and supporting utilities.
  • Strong estimating and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to interpret plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with local and industry codes governing HVAC&R.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Projects.
  • Trade-specific skills in Low-Voltage, Mechanical & HVAC, Building Automation, and Electrical.
