Location Overview:
The Courtyard by Marriott Birmingham Downtown at UAB is situated in the vibrant and historic city of Birmingham, Alabama's largest metropolitan area. This location offers a dynamic work environment, allowing you to thrive in one of Alabama's premier urban settings.

Position Summary:
The role involves welcoming and registering guests, delivering prompt and courteous service, and finalizing guest accounts upon their departure, all while adhering to the high standards set by Pyramid Hotel Group.

  • Warmly greet guests with a sincere welcome. Utilize a positive and clear speaking voice, actively listen to requests, respond appropriately, and provide accurate information regarding hotel amenities and local attractions.
  • Facilitate the registration process by entering and retrieving information from a computer system, confirming essential details such as guest count and room rates. Promote the hotel's marketing initiatives and make suitable room selections based on guest preferences. Issue electronic keys and provide welcome packets containing room keys and relevant information.
  • Verify and process credit card transactions for authorization using electronic methods. Manage cash transactions, provide change, and balance an assigned cash drawer. Accept and document various forms of payment, including vouchers and travelers checks, and perform accurate arithmetic calculations as needed.
  • Answer phone calls promptly with clear and positive communication. Record messages accurately and relay them to guests. Retrieve mail and packages for guests upon request.
  • Close guest accounts during check-out and ensure satisfaction. Address any dissatisfaction by negotiating resolutions, which may include revenue adjustments.
  • Maintain composure and alertness, especially during busy periods or emergencies, and effectively resolve issues such as room changes or payment discrepancies.
  • Handle guest complaints with thorough research to identify effective solutions and negotiate outcomes. Listen attentively and assist in resolving issues such as temperature control or billing disputes, taking ownership of guest challenges to ensure satisfaction.

Additional Information:
Regular attendance in accordance with Pyramid Hotel Group's standards is crucial for success in this role. Employees with inconsistent attendance may face disciplinary actions. Compliance with all company rules and regulations is mandatory for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Basic mathematical skills and proficiency in using a calculator for moderately complex calculations.
  • Ability to effectively interact with both internal and external customers, demonstrating patience, tact, and diplomacy to resolve conflicts.
  • Capability to stand and move throughout the front office while performing essential job functions.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in accessing and accurately inputting information using a moderately complex computer system.
  • Ability to observe and respond to emergency situations.
  • Experience with Galaxy systems is advantageous but not mandatory.

Education:
High school diploma preferred.

Experience:
No prior experience required; however, previous hospitality experience is preferred.

Licenses:
No special licenses required, but individuals must meet minimum bonding standards.

Grooming Standards:
All employees are expected to maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.

Language Skills:
Applicants with additional language skills are preferred.
