Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support research on racial and ethnic inequality in public policy. The position will be supervised by Dr. Samuel L. Myers, Jr. and housed in the Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice.
Job Responsibilities- Project Management (40%)
- Attend all planning and research team meetings.
- Manage grant budgets.
- Coordinate the research team and ensure that project deadlines, goals, and requirements are met.
- Provide daily operational oversight of research team.
- Serve as the point of contact between research team members and the granting agencies.
- Coordinate with research team members to fulfill all data management and reporting requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, community members, graduate students, along with affiliated researchers, faculty and advisors.
- Ensure timely submission of data access requests, progress reports, and grant renewal applications.
- Research and Evaluation (40%)
- Develop a work plan for research and publications.
- Collect and analyze data using quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Generate progress reports, summaries, and presentations as needed.
- Review and synthesize literature.
- Lead the development and execution of quantitative and qualitative data collection.
- Contribute to internal and external research-based reports.
- Lead the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts that advance concepts related to the fostering and dissemination of research on innovative and well-rounded solutions to the problems of disparities in public policy.
- Teaching Assistance (15%)
- Provide teaching assistance support to courses taught by Dr. Samuel L. Myers, Jr.
- Update syllabus and readings in the learning management system Canvas.
- Manage and organize student submissions.
- Professional Development (5%)
- The post-doc will be given time to pursue professional development opportunities.
- Ph.D. in Public Policy, Administration, or other interdisciplinary program focused on public policy.
- Evidence of effective writing and communications skills in the form of published written work, peer-reviewed journal articles, or other public-facing knowledge products.
- Four years of experience in managing multitask, large-team research projects.
- Experience with agile project management tools.
- Demonstrated experience delivering high quality written briefs and reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and Google Suite.
The Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice is dedicated to finding solutions to racial and ethnic inequality. Using an integrated model of research, dialogue, and community partnerships, the center guides and empowers policymakers and community leaders in developing and promoting solutions to the problems of racism and racial ethnic inequality.
The center was founded in 1992 as a joint effort of the University of Minnesota and the Roy Wilkins Foundation to carry on the legacy of Roy Wilkins, former chief executive of the NAACP. It is the only endowed center and chair in Wilkin's memory in the United States.
The center brings together a broad range of expertise to produce cutting-edge research, influence public policy, and implement viable programs on such topics as disparities, racial and economic inequality, educational opportunity gaps, and the impact and role of crime in minority communities.
