Position Overview:

The Senior Underwriter role at Crum & Forster focuses on the Custom Property division, emphasizing risk evaluation and strategic decision-making to ensure profitability and growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage risk selection and pricing strategies for new and renewal business.
  • Analyze coverage requests and determine appropriate terms and conditions.
  • Adhere to company guidelines while exercising independent judgment to achieve business objectives.
  • Maintain a disciplined underwriting approach to support overall profitability.
  • Document underwriting decisions thoroughly, ensuring a clear rationale is provided.
  • Review historical claims data to inform current underwriting practices.
  • Evaluate risk quality and compliance, initiating loss prevention measures as necessary.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with clients to foster profitable business opportunities.
  • Coordinate reinsurance placements in accordance with corporate policies.

Qualifications:
  • 5-10 years of experience in Property Underwriting.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with wholesale brokers.
  • Strong technical and marketing skills are essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of the market and regulatory landscape.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational abilities.
  • A college degree or equivalent experience is preferred; ARM and CPCU designations are advantageous.

Work Environment:
This position offers the flexibility of remote work within the Mid Atlantic Region.
