Position Overview

The Culinary Support Assistant plays a vital role in delivering nutritious meals to children and staff in compliance with established regulations and standards. This is a NON-EXEMPT, PART-TIME, and SITE BASED position, requiring a commitment of 24 hours per week over 42 weeks per year.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Culinary Support Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhering to USDA and Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations, as well as Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Assisting kitchen personnel in ensuring proper storage of food and non-food items according to relevant regulations.
  • Serving breakfast and lunch at designated times, ensuring meals are served family-style and spaced appropriately.
  • Providing assistance to children during mealtime, modeling appropriate eating practices.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in the dining area to uphold health and safety standards.
  • Participating in program discussions regarding individual health plans for children.
  • Supporting kitchen staff in food preparation and presentation as needed.
  • Assisting with grocery shopping when required.
  • Completing performance evaluations and professional development assessments in collaboration with a supervisor.
  • Being vigilant about signs of child abuse and neglect, adhering to mandated reporting laws.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of compost systems.
  • Carrying out additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Compliance with organizational policies.
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check.
  • Possession of a GED or High School Diploma.
  • Preferred knowledge of food preparation, meal service, and sanitation standards.
  • Understanding of early childhood development and nutritional needs is advantageous.
  • Reliable transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective teamwork skills.
  • Completion of a physical exam and TB screening.
