Veterinary Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Services Assistant I to join our team at the Hawaiian Humane Society. As a key member of our Veterinary Services team, you will provide essential support to our veterinarians and animal care staff, ensuring the highest level of care for our animals.
Key Responsibilities- Assist veterinarians with daily health and behavioral examinations, as well as anesthesia, surgical preparation, and monitoring of animals.
- Prepare and administer medications, including proper logging of activity.
- Clean, disinfect, and organize the surgery suite daily.
- Treat all animals humanely and with compassion, providing standard bathing, medically prescribed bathing treatments, and basic grooming as needed.
- Feed, water, and monitor the condition of all animals as needed, ensuring their well-being and safety.
- Participate in department meetings to share ideas and suggestions, contributing to the improvement of our animal care services.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of experience working in a clinical or animal shelter environment preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Excellent customer service and people care skills.
- Work outdoors in all types of weather and indoors under regular kennel and office conditions.
- Use equipment such as leashes, water hoses, commercial cleaning fluids, computers, and veterinary instruments.
