JOB SUMMARY: Oversee the financial operations of the Museum, ensuring the timely production of financial reports, the maintenance of a robust accounting system, and the implementation of comprehensive controls to minimize risk and enhance the accuracy of financial reporting. Uphold the mission and vision of the Museum through diligent performance of responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitate financial planning and budget management for the Museum.
- Analyze and report monthly operational results in comparison to budget and forecasts.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal financial and tax reporting regulations.
- Develop, document, and enforce necessary accounting controls, objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Act as the primary contact for annual independent audits and tax preparation.
- Guarantee timely processing of payables.
- Ensure prompt collection of receivables.
- Complete and review monthly bank reconciliations.
- Manage outsourced financial activities and personnel.
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with financial covenants.
- Maintain a system of internal controls over financial transactions.
- Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE: Exceptional leadership abilities with a proven track record of managing, mentoring, and motivating accounting teams in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment. Strong business continuity skills with the capability to collaborate across departments and foster effective relationships with all stakeholders. Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and follow-through. Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with all levels of staff, vendors, and board members, as well as facilitate group discussions. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or collaboratively. Comprehensive knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including generally accepted accounting practices. Familiarity with federal and state financial regulations. Proficient in analyzing financial data and preparing reports, statements, and forecasts. Working knowledge of budgeting processes, including short- and long-term forecasting. Strong technical skills and proficiency in MS Office and accounting software. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Altru is highly desirable. A Bachelor's degree in accounting with ten years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience is required. Experience in a mid-level management finance or accounting role is preferred. CPA certification is preferred. Experience in non-profit accounting is advantageous.
