Job Summary:
The Veterinary Assistant provides daily care, feeding, and exercise of boarding and hospitalized animals. This role requires attention to detail, understanding of proper feeding and sanitation procedures, and monitoring of boarding and hospitalized pets.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and uphold the core values and mission statement of Kennesaw Mountain Veterinary Services.
- Provide compassionate care to boarding pets and hospitalized patients.
- Check-in animals for boarding, interact with clients, and record all information on boarding forms.
- Feed and water animals according to schedules, administer medications to pets that require them, and administer flea and tick control on all animals.
- Walk through the kennel area regularly to check each pet for any abnormal activity.
- Make medical records for animals needing a doctor exam, inform receptionists of doctor charges, and take pets to the treatment area for medical services.
- Report abnormal activity to doctors and technicians, pull patient medical records, and recognize emergency situations.
- Supervise animals in the yard, perform TLC play times or walks for clients, and clean and disinfect cages, runs, and yard as needed.
- Wear personal protective equipment required for the area and maintain it in good working order.
- Check out animals for boarding, review boarding report cards with clients, and give baths to animals that qualify.
Qualifications:
- Confidence around animals and pets.
- Knowledge of proper animal restraint techniques.
- Knowledge of infectious diseases and how to control and prevent their spread.
- Reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and ability to speak the English language) to perform duties proficiently.
- Must be in the process of obtaining or have attained a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
