Senior Civil Rights Investigator - Main Campus

Position Overview

The Senior Civil Rights Investigator and Compliance Manager is tasked with (1) executing civil rights investigations at Georgetown University, focusing on intricate inquiries into complaints of alleged discrimination and harassment based on protected characteristics; (2) designing and delivering training on compliance with federal and local non-discrimination and anti-harassment regulations; (3) performing climate assessments within the University and aiding in the University's disability compliance efforts; and (4) facilitating the University's response to bias-related incidents and informal resolution processes. This role reports to the Associate Vice President for Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Compliance within the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Affirmative Action (IDEAA).

Collaboration and Interaction

The Senior Civil Rights Investigator and Compliance Manager will collaborate closely with various University offices and divisions, including the Department of Human Resources and the Office of General Counsel. This position requires acting as a neutral party to conduct prompt and thorough investigations of alleged incidents, providing detailed and unbiased reports on investigative findings. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Conducting investigations into allegations of discrimination, harassment, and hostile work environments based on protected categories, including age, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and national origin, even when complaints involve employees and third parties.

Communicating with involved parties to inform them about the investigatory process.

Interviewing involved parties and witnesses.

Collecting and analyzing relevant documentation.

Maintaining accurate and detailed records.

Ensuring timely communication with all parties involved.

Drafting and issuing comprehensive reports regarding investigation outcomes.

Staying updated on new developments and best practices in Title IX and civil rights matters.

Creating and delivering training sessions on non-discrimination and anti-harassment for community members.

Developing training related to employment equity issues, the University's grievance procedures, and employee reporting obligations.

Assisting in coordinating the University's response to bias-related incidents.

Facilitating informal resolutions among community members in cases of discrimination and harassment.

Qualifications

A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with at least 8 years focused on conducting investigations related to discrimination and harassment, preferably in higher education or civil rights contexts.

Significant experience working with diverse populations, including communities of color, the LGBTQ community, and individuals with disabilities.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) required.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with the higher education sector.

Experience in conducting sensitive and confidential investigations, particularly in the area of sexual misconduct.

Proven skills in interviewing parties and witnesses and conducting investigations.

Awareness of the sensitivity required when engaging with a diverse community.

Ability to produce high-quality analytical written reports.

Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment.

Capacity to maintain neutrality and establish credibility with a wide range of constituents, including faculty, staff, students, and law enforcement.

Strong interpersonal skills, including effective listening abilities.

Sensitivity to and respect for individual needs.

Work Mode Designation

This position is designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed to meet the evolving needs of the University.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $103, $202,778.93. Compensation is influenced by various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs.
