Position Overview

The Senior Civil Rights Investigator and Compliance Manager will undertake the following responsibilities:

  1. Conduct thorough investigations into civil rights complaints, particularly those alleging discrimination and harassment based on protected characteristics.
  2. Design and implement training programs that ensure compliance with federal and local non-discrimination and anti-harassment regulations.
  3. Perform climate assessments to evaluate the University’s adherence to disability compliance standards.
  4. Support the coordination of responses to bias-related incidents and facilitate informal resolution processes.

Collaboration and Reporting

This role requires close collaboration with various University departments, including Human Resources and Legal Counsel. The Senior Civil Rights Investigator will act impartially, ensuring investigations are conducted promptly and thoroughly, resulting in detailed and unbiased reports.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Investigate allegations of discrimination and harassment, ensuring a fair process for all parties involved.
  2. Communicate effectively with involved parties regarding the investigatory process.
  3. Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses, and relevant individuals.
  4. Analyze documentation pertinent to investigations and maintain accurate records.
  5. Draft comprehensive reports detailing investigative findings.
  6. Stay informed about developments in Title IX and civil rights matters to implement best practices.
  7. Deliver training on non-discrimination and anti-harassment to community members.
  8. Assist in the University’s response to incidents of bias.
  9. Facilitate informal resolutions in cases of discrimination and harassment.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with at least 8 years in conducting investigations related to discrimination and harassment, preferably in higher education.
  2. Experience working with diverse populations, including communities of color, LGBTQ individuals, and persons with disabilities.
  3. A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with the higher education landscape.
  2. Experience in conducting sensitive investigations, particularly in cases of sexual misconduct.
  3. Strong skills in interviewing and investigative techniques.
  4. Ability to interact sensitively with a diverse community.
  5. Excellent analytical writing skills.
  6. Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment.
  7. Capacity to maintain neutrality and credibility with a wide range of stakeholders.
  8. Effective interpersonal skills, including active listening.
  9. Respect for individual needs and concerns.

Work Mode Designation

This position is designated as Hybrid, with work mode designations subject to review to meet the evolving needs of the University.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $103,000 and $202,778.93, determined by various factors including qualifications and experience.
