POSITION SUMMARY

Under general oversight, the Early Childhood Special Education Instructor is an integral member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Planning Team, actively engaging in the determination of suitable placements for students with unique educational needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
  • Evaluating the academic, behavioral, and perceptual performance of individual students.
  • Executing and overseeing the implementation of students' Individualized Education Plans.
  • Delivering a foundational core curriculum tailored for special education students, in alignment with state and federal educational regulations.
  • Advising support staff, classroom educators, parents, and district personnel on appropriate diagnostic and instructional services for students with exceptional needs.
  • Providing consultative, resource, and supervisory support in program and curriculum development, research, and evaluation for special projects involving students with exceptional needs at both the school and district levels.
  • Collaborating with teachers and staff to devise instructional strategies that cater to the needs of students with exceptional needs.
  • Coordinating and supervising work experience and on-campus job training initiatives for special education students.
  • Working in partnership with general education teachers to interpret the abilities and challenges of special education students, ensuring their core curriculum needs are met.
  • Facilitating referrals for individuals with exceptional needs to relevant community agencies when district services are insufficient.
  • Consulting with parents and interdisciplinary team members, including external agencies, regarding the needs of individual students with exceptional needs.
  • Maintaining regular communication with parents and professional staff concerning the educational, social, and personal issues affecting students.
  • Assisting fellow professionals in addressing the unique psychological and disciplinary challenges faced by students.
  • Maintaining accurate attendance records, computerized IEP documentation, and all other records essential for state reporting and program accountability.
  • Engaging in professional development activities.
  • Participating in district-wide meetings to uphold standards and evaluate special education services.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possession of a valid California Credential or license authorizing service in the assigned grade levels and areas.
  • Valid English Learner Certification.
  • Verification of compliance with NCLB Highly Qualified standards.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor's degree, encompassing all coursework necessary to fulfill credential requirements.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision capabilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
