POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, this role involves being an integral member of the Individual Education Program Planning Team, contributing to decisions regarding the placement of students with exceptional needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluating academic, behavioral, and perceptual functioning of individual students.
  • Implementing and overseeing students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Providing a foundational core curriculum for special education students in alignment with state and federal educational standards.
  • Advising support staff, classroom teachers, parents, and district personnel on suitable diagnostic and instructional services for students with exceptional needs.
  • Offering consultative, resource, and supervisory services in program and curriculum planning, research, and evaluation for special projects involving students with exceptional needs.
  • Collaborating with teachers and staff to devise instructional strategies tailored to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Coordinating and supervising work experience and on-campus job training programs for special education students.
  • Working in partnership with general education teachers to interpret the abilities and disabilities of special education students, assisting in their core curriculum needs.
  • Facilitating referrals for individuals with exceptional needs to community agencies when district services are insufficient.
  • Engaging with parents and professionals from related disciplines, including external agencies, to discuss the needs of students with exceptional needs.
  • Maintaining frequent communication with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal concerns of students.
  • Assisting colleagues in addressing the unique psychological and disciplinary challenges faced by students.
  • Keeping accurate attendance records, computerized IEP documentation, and all relevant records for state reporting and program accountability.
  • Participating in professional development activities and district-wide meetings to uphold standards and evaluate special education services.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

CREDENTIALS:
Must possess a valid California Credential or license for the assigned grade levels and areas, along with a valid English Learner Certification and verification of NCLB Highly Qualified compliance.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree that fulfills all credential requirements.
