James Madison University is seeking a highly skilled Grants Specialist to support the Commonwealth of Virginia's mission by managing and delivering grant funds in a timely manner. The successful candidate will promote student learning by educating students about financial aid policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program (VMSDEP) program, the College Transfer Grant (CTG) program, and all non-Virginia state grant programs.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the Office of International Programs, establishing budgets for studies abroad participants and adjusting financial aid packages accordingly.
  • Counsel students and parents about financial aid policies and procedures pertaining to studies abroad.
  • Counsel students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid, demonstrating a broad understanding of financial aid policies and procedures.
  • Manage the summer financial aid email box.
  • Develop and implement new policies and procedures to further utilize technological advances and address the changing needs of the out-of-state grant and non-discretionary Virginia grant programs.

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of federal and state policies in relation to student financial assistance.
  • Fluency in the Windows computer operating environment and Microsoft Office, with a particular focus on Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Student Information System is beneficial, but not required.
  • Good typing/data entry skills.
  • Polished telephone and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
