About the Role:
James Madison University is seeking a highly skilled Grants Specialist to support the Commonwealth of Virginia's mission by managing and delivering grant funds in a timely manner. The successful candidate will promote student learning by educating students about financial aid policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program (VMSDEP) program, the College Transfer Grant (CTG) program, and all non-Virginia state grant programs.
- Serve as primary point of contact for the Office of International Programs, establishing budgets for studies abroad participants and adjusting financial aid packages accordingly.
- Counsel students and parents about financial aid policies and procedures pertaining to studies abroad.
- Counsel students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid, demonstrating a broad understanding of financial aid policies and procedures.
- Manage the summer financial aid email box.
- Develop and implement new policies and procedures to further utilize technological advances and address the changing needs of the out-of-state grant and non-discretionary Virginia grant programs.
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of federal and state policies in relation to student financial assistance.
- Fluency in the Windows computer operating environment and Microsoft Office, with a particular focus on Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft Student Information System is beneficial, but not required.
- Good typing/data entry skills.
- Polished telephone and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail.
Working Conditions:
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
