About the Role

The F-35 Aircraft Mechanic II - Lead Maintenance Technician will lead a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled/unscheduled maintenance. This individual will process technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the F-35A/B/C.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team in the performance of aircraft scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Perform scheduled/unscheduled Organizational Level maintenance on F-35 aircraft airframe, power plants, structures, and related systems.
  • Repair composite and sheet metal, aircraft structures, and hydraulic components of a difficulty level deemed moderate to complex.
  • Responsible for all aircraft low observable outer mold line structures, materials, and applications.
  • Prepare composite or metallic surfaces for coating applications by performing various operations such as sanding, stripping, applying vacuum, performing porosity testing, masking, and other preparation tasks.
  • Mix and apply sealants, gap fillers, and any other required processes prior to paint, which may require the use of heating devices.
  • Mix and apply paints and other coatings at the proper spraying consistency and brush/roller application.
  • Apply additional surface details to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform or coordinate component-level testing for specification compliance after applications have been completed.
  • May perform similar duties in aircraft maintenance, modification, or maintenance role.
  • Verify application/condition of installed Low Observable materials for conformity to specifications and determine material required to perform repairs.
  • Remove, take corrective action, and make reinstallations for design and modification changes.
  • Set up and operate various types of material testers and mixers.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and service aircraft systems.
  • Conduct diagnosis of malfunctions.
  • Perform maintenance, disassembly, rework, repair, replacement, re-assembly, or adjustment of various aircraft systems in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP), and applicable publications.
  • Adhere to the Aircraft Confined Space Program.
  • Properly utilize associated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Pass the Government's F-35 Low Observable Systems Technician Course (if not previously qualified).
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the Program Manager/Site Manager.
About You

We're looking for individuals with:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years' USN/USMC/USAF Organizational level aircraft airframes/structural and corrosion control experience on the F-35 aircraft with a F-35 CDI/7 level Airframes MOS/NEC/AFSC CDI designation.
  • Must present documentation of having been previously qualified as an F-35 CDI Airframes/7 level (Mech II) either as a contractor or while on active duty.
  • Within 90 days of hiring, applicants will need to requalify and be redesignated as a F-35 Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI).
  • Preferred: Previously certified as F-35 Low Observable (L/O) qualified.
  • Have completed both of the following courses:
    • F35 LO observable finishes overview: 060450iLT000, general overview.
  • Completed the OJT course: General LO Observable Training Course: 088312ilY00.
  • Completion of the appropriate Navy Skill Specialty Class C school in airframes systems or USMC, USAF equivalent.
  • Must have completed the appropriate Navy Skill Specialty Class C school in airframes systems or USMC, USAF equivalent.
  • Must acquire all Support Equipment licenses that are required for the position once hired.
  • Shall possess a thorough understanding or become familiar and proficient with LIS/CMMS/LOHAS documentation system within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
  • This position will require U.S. citizenship due to the requirement to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

  • Occasionally travel (20%).
  • Be available to work the day or night shift.
