Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a clinical setting, ensuring accurate and efficient specimen collection and processing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Phlebotomy and Specimen Collection: Perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age-related standards, ensuring accurate and efficient specimen collection and processing.
  • Patient Care: Provide appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care, including identifying need for patient medical assistance and calling code as appropriate.
  • Lab Operations: Review and record refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records, reporting areas of concern to maintenance for repair and supervisor or manager.
  • Specimen Processing: Use manual requisitions and labels specimens appropriately, labeling and processing specimens according to established protocols and policies.
  • Communication: Communicate all outstanding orders on manifest log, and communicate all timed, completed or uncompleted draws/charges/results to the client office staff.
  • Quality and Safety: Prioritize tasks and multi-task, performing and collecting phlebotomy specimens within cost and maintaining efforts of a less than 2 percent recollection or cancellation rate.
  • Teamwork: Demonstrate teamwork by helping co-workers within and across departments, communicating effectively with others, respecting diverse opinions and styles, and acknowledging the assistance and contributions of others.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types, experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge.
  • Skills: Familiarity with medical EMR systems, knowledge of medical terminology, and bilingual skills.
