Job Summary

ABM Industries is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Building Engineer to oversee the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems within a property. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facilities engineering and a proven track record of managing maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of maintenance staff to ensure the highest standards of tenant and client satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement maintenance programs to ensure the maximum life and reliability of all systems.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the property, including all tenant space, public areas, and back of house.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Order materials and complete work assignments on time and by a specified date.
  • Maintain property by managing painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, mechanical, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Notify management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies to maintenance employees.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and recommend measures to improve production.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in resolving work problems.
  • Supervise and motivate maintenance staff, including coaching, counseling, evaluating, and training activities.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of employees.
  • Attend periodic meetings with management and conduct or participate in safety meetings at designated intervals with staff.
  • Submit recommendations for painting, repairs, furnishings, relocation of equipment, and reallocation of space.
  • Understand government regulations affecting the property's operations and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and requirements of any federal, state, or municipal authority.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of engineering experience at a chief or supervisory level.
  • Engineering skill sets that can be applied to a range of systems, maintenance programs, and engines.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and detailed level of project management for regulatory compliance modifications.
  • Excellent verbal and technical writing skills.
