Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Category Manager to lead our Nicotine Product Category team at United Pacific. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for driving the growth and profitability of our nicotine product category.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Execute Strategic Merchandising Plans: Develop and execute strategic merchandising plans to drive category growth and profitability, targeting an optimal product mix and assortment of back bar planograms.
  • Manage Product Assortment Life Cycle: Dynamically manage the product assortment life cycle to capitalize on trends and minimize inventory exposure of slow-moving items.
  • Lead Category Marketing Mix: Responsible for the development, execution, and communication of the category marketing mix to key stakeholders, including product, placement, pricing, and promotional strategies.
  • Manage Key Vendor Relationships: Manage key vendor relationships to ensure their efforts support our strategic merchandising efforts.
  • Drive Gross Margins Performance: Drive gross margins performance by utilizing price optimization tools and actively seeking opportunities to reduce product costs, strategically buying into deals, and aggressively negotiating costs and product placement fees.
  • Monitor and Report Category KPIs: Monitor and report on category KPIs to measure and manage sales, unit, and margin performance, as well as inventory levels, to ensure we meet budget and performance expectations.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all nicotine products and marketing activities comply with relevant laws and regulations, including staying updated on regulatory changes.
  • Identify Opportunities for Improvement: Actively identify ways to improve and streamline administrative processes around new item setup, promotional management, store planogram communication, and other areas.
  • Negotiate Vendor Contracts: Negotiate annual/multiyear partnership contracts with key vendors/suppliers.
  • Ensure Product Information Accuracy: Ensure that all appropriate product information is completed and set up on the merchandising system, then distributed to field operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Related Field: Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business or marketing, preferred.
  • 8+ Years of Experience: 8+ years of experience in merchandising/category management/procurement required.
  • Strong Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills, specifically with suppliers and vendors, required.
  • Self-Starter with Analytical Skills: A self-starter with proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, and consistently strives to exceed expectations.
  • Strong Strategic Thinking Skills: Ability to lead and foster collaborative cross-functional partnerships, highly analytical, and excels at planning and timeline management.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: High level of problem-solving skills, must be highly analytical, and be able to seek solutions to deliver favorable outcomes.
  • Business Development Experience: Demonstrated success in business development, proven track record of building relationships while developing existing relationships.
  • Decision-Making and Risk-Taking: Ability to make decisions and take calculated risks.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to Thrive in a Fast-Paced Environment: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with P&L Performance Management: Experienced in managing P&L performance for area of responsibility.
  • Microsoft Office and Power BI Skills: High comfort level with Microsoft Outlook & Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and strong analytical skills and understanding of reporting tools such as Power BI.
