Job Summary

The Medical Assistant I, Certified provides clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and teams in an outpatient setting. This role involves working under the supervision of a provider for patient care activities and under the general direction of a manager for non-clinical responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Collects patient data, including vital signs, medical history, and reason for visit.
  • Assists providers with treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
  • Administers medications under provider direction.
  • Performs tests, such as EKG and eye exams, under provider direction.
  • Reviews patient records for routine health screenings.
  • Ensures exam rooms are stocked and prepared for patient visits.
  • Provides patient education and instructions.
  • Assists with patient registration, scheduling, and referrals.
  • Answers clinic phone and assists with in-basket tasks.
Requirements
  • Medical Assistant certification from a recognized organization.
  • Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Prior medical assistant experience preferred.
Work Environment

This position is employed by UNC Health, a private subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. The work environment is fast-paced and requires effective communication and teamwork skills.
