Position Overview:


Northwestern Memorial Healthcare presents an exceptional opportunity for recent graduates to engage in a fellowship program tailored for Advanced Practice Providers (APP) within our General Internal Medicine and Primary Care outpatient facilities.

The fellowship encompasses a comprehensive 9-month training period, where the initial 6 months will be dedicated to immersive training under the guidance of our experienced APPs in General Internal Medicine, followed by a 3-month rotation in a Primary Care clinic.

The program includes shadowing APPs and physicians, participating in educational sessions, and rotating through various medical specialties such as Endocrinology, Rheumatology, and Nephrology.


Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, daytime hours; no night shifts, weekends, holidays, or on-call duties.

Compensation:
$42.31 per hour for the duration of the fellowship, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package.


The APP Fellow role embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, ensuring adherence to the organization's ethical standards, compliance programs, and all relevant policies and regulations.


This Advanced Practice Fellowship aims to provide cutting-edge postgraduate training, equipping APP fellows with the skills necessary for successful practice in specialized fields such as cardiology or hematology-oncology.

Fellows will experience diverse clinical rotations, enhancing their critical thinking, diagnostic, and clinical skills essential for managing complex medical cases and delivering safe, effective care to adult patients.


The fellowship program emphasizes a rigorous educational curriculum, offering hands-on clinical experience through structured rotations in hospital medicine and specialty areas, along with outpatient settings.

Multi-disciplinary collaboration and communication are central to the training approach.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill all credentialing and privileging requirements at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare for inpatient core privileges.
  • Attend all scheduled didactic lectures and educational opportunities for APP fellows.
  • Deliver direct patient care as assigned by clinical preceptors.
  • Engage in collaboration and consultation with physicians and healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Develop organizational skills to effectively manage a patient caseload.
  • Enhance communication and presentation skills within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of common disease processes through fellowship training and independent study.
  • Identify personal professional development needs and collaborate with APP preceptors to create learning opportunities.
  • Participate in the APP Transition into Practice Program and monthly APP grand rounds.

Clinical Duties:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' health by taking detailed health histories and performing advanced physical examinations.
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients as required.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests to establish diagnoses and formulate comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications, therapies, and interventions in accordance with clinical privileges.
  • Document all care provided and procedures performed in the medical record.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Coordinate discharge planning with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Consult with other specialties as necessary to address all healthcare needs of patients.

Leadership Engagement:
  • Participate in departmental or hospital committees and professional organizations.
  • Advocate for patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Consult with leadership to identify and address clinical system and process challenges.

Educational Contributions:

Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding preventive care, medical conditions, treatment plans, and expected outcomes.

Develop and engage in programs to meet personal educational needs and those of the clinical team.

Deliver formal and informal educational sessions to healthcare professionals relevant to the APP fellow role.


Research and Quality Improvement:
  • Engage in evidence-based research and apply findings to clinical practice.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and contribute to the development of outcome metrics.
