Advanced Practice Provider in Hematology/Oncology

Position Overview:
Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider to join our specialized inpatient hematology/oncology stem cell transplant and cell therapy unit.
Work Schedule:
This role involves a commitment of 40 hours per week, structured as three 12-hour shifts and an additional four hours dedicated to indirect patient care. The position requires flexibility for rotating weekends and holidays, with no night shifts or on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will:
- Exhibit clinical proficiency and extensive knowledge through various patient care activities, including the diagnosis and management of diverse health conditions.
- Be accountable for the health outcomes of a designated patient population.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in your area of clinical expertise.
- Develop educational resources for patients, families, and staff in your specialty.
- Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care methodologies.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and/or research relevant to your field of expertise.
Clinical Duties:
Your role will include:
- Conducting thorough assessments of patients' health by obtaining health histories and performing physical examinations.
- Providing direct clinical care and prescribing medications and therapies as per your clinical privileges.
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other procedures.
- Evaluating patients to ascertain their need for additional healthcare services.
- Delivering comprehensive education to patients and their families.
All care and educational interactions must be documented in the medical record, ensuring accountability for the procedures performed. You will also refer patients to other specialties as necessary and serve as a consultant in your areas of expertise.
Professional Development:
Maintain a professional demeanor in all interactions, advocating for patients, families, colleagues, and the community. You will be expected to uphold certifications and continuing education requirements essential for licensure and privileges. Additionally, you will participate in committees or task forces at the unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital level as appropriate.
Through your role, you will also contribute to the development of educational programs to address the continuing education needs of staff and provide formal education to both internal and external groups relevant to your specialty. Your involvement in quality improvement and/or research initiatives will focus on specific patient populations as appropriate.
