Your Role in Making a Difference

The Lead Vocational Nurse is an advanced nursing professional who collaborates with healthcare leaders and physicians to systematically plan, direct, and assess patient care. Utilizing specialized clinical expertise, the Lead Nurse employs data collection and evaluation in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to ensure ongoing therapeutic care. Furthermore, the Lead Nurse regularly communicates to set objectives and strategies, maintaining expert clinical knowledge while serving as a mentor and clinical resource for nursing staff, and contributing to the professional growth of the healthcare team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Facilitate collaboration with medical personnel, clinical teams, nursing staff, and program leadership to enhance care outcomes and address complex multidisciplinary challenges, including effective communication with referring facilities and emergency medical services.
  • Oversee patient admissions, transfers, and discharges by coordinating with other Lead Nurses, ensuring fair workload distribution among team members through effective delegation and supervision based on their competencies.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, providing guidance and support to staff while coordinating the delivery of the team's shift report.
  • Encourage and enhance patient autonomy and self-determination in decision-making, involving patients and families in identifying educational needs for self-care upon discharge. Act as a leader by participating in quality assurance initiatives and consistently communicating positively and professionally with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Engage in departmental and facility performance improvement activities, implementing directives from the Director of Nursing (DON) to rectify deviations from documentation and nursing care standards, while maintaining appropriate boundaries with patients in non-clinical environments.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Psychiatric Technician (LPT) degree from an accredited nursing institution; this is a fundamental requirement for all licensed nursing professionals.

Experience

  • 2 to 4 years of experience as an LVN/LPT, ideally gained in long-term care, medical/surgical, or inpatient psychiatric settings, or similar environments that have equipped the candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the role effectively.
  • 2 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including charge, lead, or supervisory roles (Preferred).
  • 2 years of experience in inpatient psychiatry (Preferred).

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must hold a current, unrestricted LVN or LPT license in the state of employment (required).
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (required).
