Position Overview:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse I operates under the direct guidance of a Registered Nurse or physician, delivering nursing services in alignment with the legal scope of practice and established care standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and relevant laws.
  • Execute patient care tasks within the scope of competency, addressing age-related needs as prescribed by healthcare professionals, while following established protocols.
  • Assist medical staff with special procedures, minor surgeries, and diagnostic examinations.
  • Evaluate and monitor patient conditions, promptly notifying healthcare professionals for necessary actions.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by physician orders, adhering to established protocols.
  • Maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring proper functionality and identifying repair needs.
  • Implement aseptic techniques and infection control measures as outlined in the Infection Control Manual.
  • Oversee patient flow and direct ancillary personnel as required.
  • Provide medical education and information to patients, following established guidelines.
  • Document relevant patient information, assessments, and nursing procedures according to established protocols.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Patient Care Duties:

  • Clarify the purpose and process of examinations and medical procedures to patients.
  • Guide patients on general health and self-care practices.
  • Review and explain physician orders with patients.
  • Assist patients in using home medical equipment.
  • Administer first aid and apply orthopedic devices as needed.
  • Execute treatments such as catheterizations and suction procedures.
  • Follow standard infection control protocols.
  • Initiate emergency procedures, including basic CPR, when necessary.
  • Monitor vital signs and observe patients for any adverse reactions.
  • Participate in the development of nursing care plans.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient appointments, including scheduling and follow-ups.
  • Maintain patient records and assist with clerical tasks.
  • Order and manage medical supplies and equipment.
  • Train and orient new staff on procedures and equipment.
  • Engage in department meetings and contribute to team initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 0 to 1 year of LVN experience.
  • Education: Not applicable.
  • Licensure: Vocational Nurse License (California) and Basic Life Support certification required.

Additional Information:

  • This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including weekend shifts.
  • Staff must be available for comprehensive training.
