- Perform quality control checks and maintenance on patient care equipment.
- Assist in identifying patient needs and implementing the plan of care.
- Document care given and patient response in the medical record.
- Prepare patients for physical examinations and communicate pertinent patient data to healthcare providers.
- Recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate resuscitative measures.
- Conduct prescribed nurse-initiated orders and document in the patient medical record.
- Assist with patient and family education regarding medications, therapies, and diagnostic procedures.
- Assess patient and family knowledge level, implement a plan of instructions, and record patient and family demonstrated level of understanding.
- Ensure content and correctness of prepared reports and sign to validate their content.
- Participate in monitoring quality of care according to professional standards and established procedures.
- Respond to telephone inquiries regarding ward services and follow-up ancillary reports.
- Assist with ward-related administrative tasks.
- Administer oxygen, intravenous fluids, and prescribed medications in accordance with VA policy.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity, race, gender, and other individual differences in the workforce, in the Veteran population, and in the community.
- Possess a valid, current license to practice nursing as an LPN with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions.
- Have been actively practicing as an LPN for at least one year within the past three years.
- Be capable of providing nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients.
- Have and maintain current BLS certification.
- Have documented training and skills verification.
- Have at least one year of experience in primary care/ambulatory care.
