Under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse or physician, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides essential nursing care in alignment with the legal scope of practice and established care standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Deliver patient care functions within the scope of competency, taking into account the age-related needs of patients as directed by healthcare professionals, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Assist medical staff with special procedures, minor surgical interventions, and diagnostic examinations.
  • Evaluate and monitor patient conditions, promptly notifying the physician or healthcare professional regarding any changes.
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed, adhering to established protocols.
  • Maintain and manage medical equipment and supplies, ensuring proper functionality and identifying items requiring repair.
  • Implement infection control measures as outlined in the Infection Control Manual.
  • Guide patient flow and coordinate with ancillary personnel as necessary.
  • Provide medical education and information to patients, following established guidelines.
  • Document relevant patient information, assessments, and nursing procedures in accordance with established protocols.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Patient Care Procedures:

  • Clarify the purpose and process of examinations, tests, and medical procedures to patients.
  • Educate patients on general health and self-care practices.
  • Review and explain physician orders with patients.
  • Instruct patients on the use of home medical equipment.
  • Administer first aid and apply basic orthopedic devices as ordered.
  • Execute treatments such as urinary catheterization and suction procedures.
  • Follow standard infection control protocols.
  • Initiate emergency procedures, including basic CPR, when necessary.
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs and observe for any adverse reactions during and after procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation and positioning of patients for various medical procedures.

Administrative Duties:

  • Manage patient appointments, including scheduling and follow-ups.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and departmental logs.
  • Order and manage medical supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
  • Support compliance initiatives and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.

Qualifications:

Experience: No prior LVN experience required.

Education: Not applicable.

Licensure: Must possess a Vocational Nurse License (California) and Basic Life Support certification.

Additional Notes: This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential weekend shifts and training commitments.
