Position Overview:

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader for the role of Vice President of Strategic Operations. This position will oversee the Office of the Vice President for Strategic Operations and will directly manage a team of five dedicated professionals. The office plays a crucial role in collaborating across the university to support high-level strategic and financial initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Chief Financial Officer and senior leadership on matters related to strategic planning, financial analysis, and forecasting.
  • Lead and coordinate strategic initiatives that require collaboration across various divisions, ensuring alignment with the university's overarching strategic objectives.
  • Develop sophisticated predictive financial models and comprehensive business plans for key priorities and initiatives.
  • Identify both internal and external opportunities to facilitate strategic growth, enhance operational efficiency, and support the organization's long-term financial goals.
  • Promote the use of data and analytics in strategic planning and operational decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Provide analytical and financial support to schools and divisions on critical strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Design and implement advanced financial reporting systems to improve transparency and decision-making capabilities at all organizational levels.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including divisional business officers and university administration teams, to facilitate effective strategic planning and analysis.
  • Oversee quarterly financial reporting on major philanthropic initiatives and manage ad-hoc requests from key philanthropic partners, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Identify and implement innovative financial practices and technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the university's financial operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in finance, business, public administration, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in financial analysis, project management, or consulting, demonstrating increasing responsibility and direct supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Ability to independently manage complex, large-scale projects from inception to completion, proactively seeking creative solutions to challenges.
  • Collaborative working style with excellent consultative, project management, analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills, with experience presenting to senior-level audiences.
