Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist performs a variety of imaging exams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, utilizing critical thinking and technical skills to produce high-quality images. This position requires strong communication and patient assessment skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology to implement appropriate imaging techniques using established protocols to acquire required images
• Adjusts to changing or unusual circumstances and cares for patients and families in a variety of settings to ensure their comfort and safety
• Applies critical thinking skills and ensures order accuracy when triaging and prioritizing patients
• Completes documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy or procedure, including proper image management and accurate documentation in electronic medical record
• Practices safety at all times, adhering to ALARA principles for proper radiation safety for team members and patients, using mobilization and immobilization devices, following safe patient handling practices, following infection prevention practices, and following hand hygiene to comply with government agencies or other regulatory bodies
• Assists providers in diagnostic and interventional procedures

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
• Hospital experience
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) registered or registry eligible or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Ultrasound) registered or registry eligible or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) registered or registry eligible

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
• Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
• Occasional high noise level in work environment
• Occasional contact with aggressive and/or combative patients
