Job Description

The Ultrasound Technologist performs general, OB-GYN, Interventional, and vascular exams in a variety of settings and on patients of all ages. They evaluate images to ensure they are of acceptable diagnostic quality and adhere to ThedaCare safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree from an accredited ultrasound program and hospital experience. They must be registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or registry eligible. If registry eligible, they must be registered within six months of date of hire.

The Ultrasound Technologist will work in a fast-paced environment, using critical thinking skills to implement appropriate imaging techniques and ensure order accuracy. They will also practice safety at all times, adhering to ALARA principles for proper radiation safety and following safe patient handling practices.

Key Accountabilities
  • Applies knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology to implement appropriate imaging techniques
  • Adjusts to changing or unusual circumstances and cares for patients and families in a variety of settings
  • Applies critical thinking skills to ensure order accuracy and prioritizes patients
  • Completes documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy or procedure
  • Practices safety at all times, adhering to ALARA principles and following safe patient handling practices
  • Assists providers in diagnostic and interventional procedures
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
  • Hospital experience
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • ARDMS registered or registry eligible or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Ultrasound) registered or registry eligible or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) registered or registry eligible
Physical Demands

The Ultrasound Technologist will be able to move freely and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance. They will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens while performing job duties.

Work Environment

The Ultrasound Technologist will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments. They will also be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

They will work in a team environment, using computers throughout the workday and frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers. They will also be required to sit for extended periods and move through the department/hospital.
