Job Title: Reference Librarian - Technology Services Specialist

Middle Georgia Regional Library invites you to apply for the position of Reference Librarian - Technology Services Specialist.

About the Role:

This is a vital team member in fulfilling the Library's mission to connect all people to the information necessary to improve their lives through excellent services and materials. As a Reference Librarian - Technology Services Specialist, you will provide general and specialized reference assistance to public library patrons, with a focus on technology services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Furnish information on library activities, facilities, rules, and services.
  • Explain and assist in use of reference resources, such as book and periodical indexes, to locate information.
  • Describe or demonstrate procedures for navigating the public access catalog and electronic resources.
  • Answer queries on complicated reference subjects, including formulating and processing online search requests.
  • Provide instruction and actively participate in the development and design of classes on use of the library and its resources.
  • Provide instruction and actively participate in the development and design of classes on computer skills.
  • Assemble and arrange displays of books and other library materials.
  • Help organize and maintain reference materials.
  • Compile bibliographies and develop library user guides, both printed and electronic.
  • Assist in reference collection development, including planning and promoting electronic information resources and services.
  • Help catalog and classify reference materials.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Library or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited university, or ability to obtain MLS/MLIS within one year after date of hire.
  • Experience working with the public.
