DIRECT REPORTS: Quality Engineers & QC Technicians

LOCATION: Sioux Falls, South Dakota

POSITION SUMMARY: The Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing ALCOM's Quality Management System across the incoming receiving, manufacturing, and final inspection processes for various aluminum trailers. This role also involves collaborating with warranty administrators to effectively address warranty claims, including root cause analysis and corrective actions. The position entails oversight of multiple plant locations and requires cross-functional collaboration to define and establish quality assurance processes, work instructions, and quality control inspection criteria.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the plant's quality management system to ensure compliance with all quality, regulatory, and compliance standards.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams across the site and network, including production, engineering, sales, and warranty administration.
  • Provide training and performance feedback to all direct reports.
  • Develop and document a Quality Assurance Plan that clearly defines the construction build process for trailer assembly while ensuring compliance with specifications and requirements.
  • Collaborate with warranty administration to plan and execute warranty resolutions and improvement initiatives, including the analysis of warranty claim data.
  • Create best practices for final inspection and establish criteria for meeting quality standards.
  • Lead the development of Quality Control Plans for ALCOM's product offerings.
  • Track, communicate, and develop Quality Key Performance Indicators for both shop floor personnel and production management, driving corrective action initiatives.
  • Implement problem-solving tools and techniques, leading teams in root cause analysis and effective corrective action implementation.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks, ensuring lessons learned are applied to prevent future issues and enhance overall quality and productivity.
  • Establish prevention plans for recurring issues.
  • Ensure all plant training incorporates essential elements supporting quality and warranty processes.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies to uphold safety standards for trailers.
  • Occasional travel to other ALCOM facilities to support quality management and continuous improvement efforts.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, quality engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of quality management experience in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising and managing direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of quality philosophies, principles, systems, methods, tools, and standards.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a sense of urgency.
  • Analytical problem solver with expertise in root cause/corrective action methodologies such as 5-why, fishbone, A3, 8D, and Pareto analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Certifications such as Green Belt, CQE, or CQM are desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Power BI experience is a plus.
  • Experience in CAD print reading is preferred.
