Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Specialist is tasked with ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory compliance through effective document management, training, auditing, validations, trend analysis, and shelf-life assessments.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide assistance and guidance in the implementation of SQF (Safe Quality Food) standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining document control protocols.
  • Assessing and updating existing programs to guarantee accurate and current documentation.
  • Supporting fellow SQF team members in their specific areas of the SQF initiative.

· Conduct internal audits in alignment with SQF standards.

· Create and execute audit plans and reports, ensuring follow-up on corrective actions based on findings and meticulously documenting all actions taken.

· Engage with vendors (product and service providers) and clients regarding SQF requirements. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting on-site audits and/or gathering acceptable third-party audits.
  • Drafting and/or acquiring product specifications.
  • Establishing customer and vendor matrices for ongoing approvals.

· Assist the Research and Development team with new and/or enhanced product samples and processes.

· Collaborate closely with USDA and/or FDA to ensure compliance with all federal regulations.

· Design and implement training programs for quality systems, procedures, and regulations.

· Oversee and ensure calibration of laboratory and production equipment; manage calibration activities including scheduling, documentation, and reporting; ensure calibration is conducted per established protocols.

· Develop, review, implement, and engage in validation protocols; analyze trends and issues; and conduct shelf-life studies.

· Participate in compliance activities as required for export regulations or customer specifications, which includes the development of labeling and packaging.

Education & Training Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

· Strong understanding of quality and regulatory standards (USDA, FDA, HACCP, GMP, GFSI).

· PCQI and SQF certification preferred.

· Internal audit training preferred.

Work Experience Requirements

· At least three years of experience in quality assurance or a related field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

· Capability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less for up to 10 hours daily.

· Exposure to temperature variations.

· Working with uncooked, cooked, frozen products, or a combination of raw materials.
