Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Manager to lead our Africa Program. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction to the program, ensuring its continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Africa Program's strategic plan, aligning with the Garden's global mission.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Africa and Madagascar Program, to drive the program's vision and objectives.
  • Conduct and publish independent research, contributing to the program's scientific reputation.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including universities, research institutions, and the private sector.
  • Develop and manage the program's budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
  • Lead and manage a team of professionals, providing coaching and development opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, promoting the Garden's role in science and conservation.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in a senior management role, with a proven track record of leadership and strategic planning.
  • Documented scientific record, with a strong publication record.
  • Advanced understanding of financial budgeting and management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel frequently, with a valid passport and necessary visas.
Education:

Masters degree in Botany, Biology, or a related field, with prior experience in a non-profit environment an advantage.

Language Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral/written).

Mathematical Skills:

Proficient in basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as budgeting and financial analysis.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to exercise independent judgment in the observation, analysis, and resolution of issues.

Computer Skills:

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid driver's license and ability to obtain necessary visas and vaccinations for international travel.
