Position Summary:
As a Credit Balance Specialist, you will meticulously assess account credit balances to determine the necessary actions for resolution. This role involves reviewing payment postings, adjustments, and charges to accurately process refunds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly evaluate outstanding insurance and patient credit balances to identify the correct party for refunds.
- Accurately post payments, adjustments, and refunds as required.
- Review daily transactions (payments and adjustments) from various sources, including Electronic Remittances, paper checks, and patient portals.
- Strictly adhere to the department's payment reconciliation procedures.
- Prioritize tasks to optimize turnaround time.
- Meet or exceed productivity benchmarks in daily assignments and maintain accuracy.
- Ensure an error rate that aligns with departmental standards.
- Update demographic information as needed to generate accurate patient statements.
- Respond promptly to internal and external communications.
- Perform additional assigned duties as required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing.
- Experience in ophthalmology is preferred.
- Strong understanding of CMS guidelines, insurance contracts, and coding policies.
- Proficient in computer applications.
- Detail-oriented and well-organized.
- Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Excellent mathematical skills.
- Capable of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with team members, clinic staff, payers, and patients.
- Demonstrated professional customer service abilities.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
