General Purpose

The role involves creating, revising, and updating engineering standards that impact all aspects of civil, distribution, transmission, and substation systems design. You will collaborate with various internal teams to evaluate external suppliers and manufacturers, ensuring the integrity and reliability of materials. Your expertise will be essential in interpreting relevant federal, state, and governing body regulations, as well as in understanding material failure modes and the techniques used for inspection and troubleshooting.

*This position may require occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities


• Assist procurement efforts to enhance material redundancy and address shortages.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.

• Assess suppliers' manufacturing capabilities for reliability and effectiveness.

• Review manufacturer documentation to ensure compliance with internal standards.

• Develop and update materials publications and specifications.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements.

• Lead investigations into equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

• Explore and evaluate new technologies aimed at cost reduction and reliability improvement.

• Provide field support for equipment and compliance issues.

• Collaborate with field teams to resolve technical challenges.

• Review applications related to joint use and pole sizing.

• Recommend materials based on specific applications.

Qualifications

For Engineer I level:


• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.

• Knowledge of governing body regulations and their impact on engineering standards.

• Understanding of material failure modes and detection methods.

• Basic knowledge of civil, substation, transmission, and distribution system layouts.

• Familiarity with troubleshooting techniques for outages related to material failures.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.

• Ability to effectively convey technical information to peers.

• Capacity to remain composed in challenging discussions.

• Proficient in researching information not readily available within the organization.

• Basic understanding of wildfire mitigation technologies and strategies.

Additional Qualifications for Engineer II level:


• Proven problem-solving abilities.

• Knowledge of relevant governing body regulations.

• Ability to identify material failure modes in a significant portion of the materials in your area of responsibility.

• Minimum of two years of experience in civil, substation, transmission, and distribution system design.

• Experience applying troubleshooting techniques to material-related outages.

• Effective communication skills for larger internal groups.

• Experience with wildfire mitigation technologies.

Additional Qualifications for Engineer III level:


• Proficient in identifying applicable governing body regulations.

• Ability to identify material failure modes in a larger portion of the materials in your area of responsibility.

• Minimum of four years of experience in relevant system design.

• Experience in troubleshooting material-related outages.

• Strong presentation skills for conveying technical information to diverse audiences.

• Experience with wildfire mitigation technologies.

Additional Qualifications for Senior Engineer level:


• Expert in interpreting governing body regulations.

• Ability to identify material failure modes in most materials in your area of responsibility.

• Minimum of six years of experience in relevant system design.

• Experience in troubleshooting techniques for material-related outages.

• Strong communication skills for executive-level presentations.

• Extensive experience with wildfire mitigation technologies.

Additional Qualifications for Principal level:


• Expert ability to interpret governing body regulations.

• Ability to identify material failure modes in all materials in your area of responsibility.

• Minimum of ten years of experience in relevant system design.

• Extensive experience in troubleshooting material-related outages.

• Significant experience with wildfire mitigation technologies.

Preferences


• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

• Advanced degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on power.

• Professional Engineering License.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus.
