Part-time Position
Business Consultants play a crucial role in the success of the 10,000 Small Businesses initiative. They support selected cohorts of 5-7 entrepreneurs as they navigate the primary deliverables of the program: a comprehensive growth strategy and a compelling growth presentation. Typically, a Consultant manages two groups of business owners.
Advisory and Curriculum Assistance
Conducts individual sessions with each entrepreneur approximately 8-10 times to facilitate business development and the completion of the Growth Strategy.
Connects entrepreneurs with external Business Support Services (local entrepreneurial ecosystem) as necessary for specialized assistance.
Collaborates with entrepreneurs to gather, interpret, and apply business metrics to foster growth.
Assists in the classroom (both in-person and online) to coordinate group activities and support instructional staff.
Guides entrepreneurs in applying course content to their ventures.
Participates in bi-weekly team meetings focused on the support system for entrepreneurs to identify their needs and brainstorm solutions using the broader delivery team network.
Attends all program modules, clinics, and events to enhance the learning experience for entrepreneurs.
Facilitates workshops for entrepreneurs on topics such as financial forecasting and completion of their growth strategies.
Utilizes educational technologies: Liveplan, Canvas, Basecamp, and Salesforce.
Ensures entrepreneurs complete Baseline and Graduation diagnostics with full validation.
Engages in the assessment of curriculum sessions through post-session debriefings.
Possesses the ability to coach entrepreneurs in crafting and presenting their growth pitches.
Assists with the recruitment and interviewing of program candidates as needed.
Maintains communication with alumni as necessary to facilitate the completion of post-program evaluations.
Community Engagement
- Participates in regular national Consultant calls to receive updates, share best practices, and discuss emerging challenges.
- Networks with local and regional business support services to enhance the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, directing entrepreneurs to appropriate resources and advancing program recruitment.
- Engages in alumni program events as needed.
Core Competencies and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, entrepreneurship, sales, or a related field, is required. An advanced degree is welcomed.
- A minimum of three years of successful experience in business consulting for small business clients.
- Strong understanding of financial forecasting and the development of small business financial statements.
- Proven ability to thrive in a diverse team environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential.
- High personal and professional ethical standards.
- Ability to engage entrepreneurs in small group interactions.
- Proficiency with MS Office tools (WORD, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and a willingness to learn new tools (e.g., Basecamp, Canvas, LivePlan, Salesforce, Zoom, etc.).
- Emotional intelligence with the capacity to provide constructive feedback positively.
