Youth Shelter Support Specialist

The role involves providing essential support at the Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter, adhering to the established policies and regulations set forth by the Agency and relevant authorities.
Key Responsibilities:- Engage with clients both in-person and via the Crisis Hotline, delivering appropriate interventions, referrals, and assistance.
- Offer crisis intervention with a composed and effective approach; provide individualized supportive counseling to clients.
- Assist clients in reaching out to and connecting with various resources, both within the organization and externally.
- Support clients in activities aimed at fulfilling their needs and achieving their goals.
- Collect necessary information for shelter entry assessments; coordinate services for potential entrants; arrange safe pick-up locations and transportation.
- Maintain the safety of the shelter and its residents at all times.
- Serve as a positive role model; aid youth in developing self-help skills; deliver case management services.
- Assist with meal preparation, housekeeping, shelter upkeep, and the organization and documentation of donations; facilitate house meetings as required.
- Provide transportation as necessary.
- Accurately enter data into the required databases in a timely manner; assist in tracking and compiling statistics related to program activities and outcomes.
- Participate in outreach and awareness initiatives as needed.
- Communicate effectively with the Program Manager regarding client activities, concerns, and interactions.
- Ensure a smooth transition of information to incoming shifts while staffing the Youth Shelter.
- Facilitate household activities within the shelter, fostering a welcoming, home-like atmosphere.
- Support the Homeless Program as assigned based on organizational needs.
- Exhibit sound judgment and uphold strict confidentiality regarding agency, program, and client information.
- Demonstrate knowledge of regulations, services, rights, and responsibilities pertinent to the population served.
- Obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and training within specified timeframes; attend required internal and external meetings and training sessions.
- Possess a valid NYS Driver's license with a driving record in compliance with policy, along with access to a properly insured, reliable vehicle for regular travel and client transportation.
- Hold a High School Diploma or GED, along with 12 months of relevant experience in human services or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
