The First Mate on a luxury yacht plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of the vessel. This individual is expected to possess comprehensive knowledge of navigation, bridge operations, and deck management, alongside the capability to mentor the deck crew in essential maintenance and repair tasks.

Vessel Specifications:

The yacht features a robust 123' steel hull with an aluminum superstructure, powered by dual 920 H.P. 12-cylinder Caterpillar engines and two 105 K.W. generators. With a fuel capacity of 10,200 gallons, it boasts an impressive range of 4000 miles and a maximum speed of 17 knots.

Bridge and Equipment:

The pilot house is outfitted with advanced navigational tools, including dual radars, depth sounders, a Gyro compass, and chart plotters, complemented by auto-pilot and VHF radios. The fly bridge, equipped with dual controls, is complemented by two 21' Boston Whalers for launches.

Accommodations:

Guest facilities comprise four luxurious staterooms, seven full bathrooms, and a powder room. The crew quarters include three cabins and a separate galley, ensuring comfort and functionality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the captain in both administrative and safety-related tasks.
  • Oversee the deck crew, ensuring discipline and efficiency.
  • Organize regular safety drills to uphold safety standards.
  • Establish watch schedules for crew members.
  • Manage deck maintenance and inventory of equipment.
  • Prepare the yacht for sea, ensuring all stowage is secure.
  • Conduct navigational duties as required.
  • Adhere to the deck budget and manage resources effectively.
  • Pursue ongoing education and licensing requirements.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ability to assume the captain's responsibilities in their absence.
  • Strong delegation skills, with effective communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in boat handling, watchkeeping, and navigation.
  • Thorough understanding of ISM and ISPS regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance practices, including cleaning, painting, and repairs.
  • Basic engineering skills are advantageous.
  • Advanced expertise in various water sports.
  • Proficient computer skills for operational tasks.
