Job Title: Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our melanoma team at Duke University School of Medicine.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will have exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post-treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, and treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgment, including prescribing medications as needed.
  • Chart patient progress and maintain detailed and accurate health records.
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documenting toxicities and data collection.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborate with supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in the education of patients, family members, new staff, students, and other learners.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients, and attend program-required meetings.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge via approved continuing medical education (CME) programs.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and adhere to North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
Requirements
  • Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Certification: Physician Assistant Certification, Nurse Practitioner Licensure and Certification, and Licensed in the State of North Carolina.
  • Experience: 1+ years of APP experience strongly preferred.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment at Duke Cancer Center, 20 Duke Medicine Circle, Durham, NC.
