Role Overview
The Mental Health Technician plays a crucial role in assisting the unit staff in delivering Psychiatric Rehabilitative services to individuals in the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit. Responsibilities include supporting structured activities, addressing personal care requirements, and facilitating discharge planning. The technician also employs crisis intervention strategies as needed to ensure a secure and therapeutic atmosphere.
Qualifications- A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience in healthcare, particularly in a psychiatric environment, is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English clearly and effectively is essential.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory at the time of hire or within six months of employment.
- Phlebotomy training is required at the time of hire or within six months of employment.
As of January 2019, St. Joseph's Healthcare System mandates that certifications for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) be obtained through the American Heart Association.
