Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Clinical Research BCVA Technician plays a vital role in conducting standardized refraction and visual acuity assessments as outlined by various research protocols. The day-to-day responsibilities may encompass a range of essential functions tailored to individual expertise and the evolving needs of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates patient flow in collaboration with the study team.
  • Conducts manifest refraction and visual acuity assessments using loose lenses, adhering to study protocols.
  • Administers low luminance and speed-reading tests, including MN Read and Radner, ensuring precision and compliance with research guidelines.
  • Performs Pell-Robson Contrast Sensitivity and Color Vision testing, along with other vision assessments relevant to clinical trials.
  • Executes study procedures meticulously and accurately.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with the vision components of all protocols.
  • Utilizes a manual lensometer to interpret prescriptions from eyewear.
  • Conducts Keratometry and measures intraocular pressure using tono-pen and Goldman applanation techniques.
  • Maintains organized filing of essential study documents as requested by the research team.
  • Contributes to various projects and performs additional duties as assigned, exercising creativity and initiative.
  • Obtains necessary sponsor-required certifications promptly.
  • Ensures all certifications remain current and compliant.
  • Responsible for maintaining the visual acuity lane in accordance with certification standards.
  • Oversees the upkeep of all equipment, lenses, and charts necessary for visual acuity testing.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of certified equipment, including burn-in logs and light bulb change records, providing updates to sponsors and Clinical Trial staff.
  • Fosters positive relationships with vendors and sponsors, addressing any deviations promptly.
  • Assists Clinical Research Coordinators and the Clinical Research Director as needed.

Qualifications:

Level I Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent, with substantial relevant experience; refracting experience preferred.
  • Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to deliver safe and appropriate patient care in line with study protocols; adaptability to changes in systems or methods; experience in ophthalmology and/or optometry is advantageous.

Level II Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 months to 1 year in VAE Level I; prior performance reviews indicating proficiency in job requirements.

Salary Range: $33.39 per hour
