Job Title: Transport Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Transport Officer to join our team at Rice County, MN. As a Transport Officer, you will be responsible for providing law enforcement, courthouse, and facility security services to the citizens of Rice County.

Job Summary

The Transport Officer will be responsible for transporting detainees, juveniles, and the mentally ill to and from correctional facilities, foster homes, juvenile facilities, mental health facilities, medical facilities, and courthouses. The officer will also provide security in the courtrooms and surrounding areas of the courthouse, including the Government Services Building and/or Jail.

Responsibilities
  • Transport detainees, juveniles, and the mentally ill to and from correctional facilities, foster homes, juvenile facilities, mental health facilities, medical facilities, and courthouses.
  • Provide security in the courtrooms and surrounding areas of the courthouse, including the Government Services Building and/or Jail.
  • Provide reception security for the Government Services Building, as assigned.
  • Provide security for detainees being detained at medical facilities.
  • Assist Deputies or other Officers with security at crime scenes.
  • Assist Deputies or other officers with traffic control at crash scenes, special events, or as needed to provide the safe flow of traffic on the roadways within the county.
  • Testify in Court of Law as arresting officer in criminal and civil matters whenever needed.
  • Attend training classes and complete qualifications necessary to maintain POST license and other required certifications, as required and assigned.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and code of conduct in accordance with department policy.
  • Assist with other duties and tasks, as needed.
Qualifications

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a valid Driver's license. The incumbent must be prepared to physically restrain, subdue, or fight with one or more persons.

Working Conditions

A majority of the time is spent either transporting subjects or sitting or standing while providing security in the Courthouse and Government Services Building. Staff may have exposure to injury, trauma, angry or violent individuals, blood-borne and air-borne diseases, traffic accidents, visual and emotional trauma, and adverse road and weather conditions.
