Job Title: Transport Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Transport Officer to join our team at Rice County, MN. As a Transport Officer, you will be responsible for providing law enforcement, courthouse, and facility security services, as well as transporting subjects to and from correctional facilities, foster homes, juvenile facilities, mental health facilities, medical facilities, and courthouses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transport detainees, juveniles, or the mentally ill to and from correctional facilities, foster homes, juvenile facilities, mental health facilities, medical facilities, and courthouses.
  • Provide security in the courtrooms and surrounding areas of the courthouse, including security in the Government Services Building and/or Jail.
  • Provide reception security for the Government Services Building, as assigned.
  • Provide security for detainees being detained at medical facilities.
  • Assist Deputies or other Officers with security at crime scenes.
  • Assist Deputies or other officers with traffic control at crash scenes, special events, or as needed to provide the safe flow of traffic on the roadways within the county.
  • Testify in Court of Law as arresting officer in criminal and civil matters whenever needed.
  • Attend training classes and complete qualifications necessary to maintain POST license and other required certifications, as required and assigned.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and code of conduct in accordance with department policy.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to work any shift or any day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to supply and maintain on file a current address and phone number where you can be reached during off-duty hours.
  • Ability to write inmate/staff incident and investigation reports.
  • Ability to give testimony in internal disciplinary hearings or in county court.
  • Ability to follow Rice County's policies and Procedures, including those that are created to maintain professional boundaries with inmates, their families, and friends.
  • Ability to transport detainees outside of the jail to court, medical appointments, or to and from other jurisdictions.
  • Ability to set aside personal prejudices and be fair in dealing with inmates regardless of their crime and/or backgrounds.
  • Ability to use appropriate use of force to deal with potentially dangerous situations.
  • Ability to wear the official uniform of the Rice County Sheriff's Department.
