Financial Accountant Job Description

Foreign Policy's finance department is seeking a highly skilled financial accountant to join the financial accounting and reporting team. As a key member of this team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data, with a focus on revenue recognition and expense reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly and annual general ledger close procedures, including journal entries, variance-to-budget analyses, and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Meet monthly and annual reporting deadlines, both internal and external, to ensure timely and accurate financial information.
  • Collaborate with business counterparts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data, and to identify areas for process improvement.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting data for annual financial statements, tax filings, and audit requests.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including responding to financial inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements:
  • A degree in accounting, with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
  • At least 2 years of general ledger accounting experience, with a strong understanding of accounting and financial concepts.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and accuracy.
